Modern Toners — Not What You Think
Today's toners are sophisticated, skin-balancing treatments — not the harsh, alcohol-heavy formulas of the past. They restore pH after cleansing, deliver the first layer of active ingredients, and prime skin to absorb serums and moisturisers far more effectively.
Toner Types by Skin Concern
- Hydrating Toner / Essence: Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Beta-Glucan — first layer of hydration; use the 7-skin layering method for intense moisture
- Exfoliating Toner (AHA): Glycolic or Lactic Acid — resurfaces skin, fades dark spots. Use 2–3x per week at night
- Exfoliating Toner (BHA): Salicylic Acid — penetrates pores to dissolve oil and congestion. Best for oily and acne-prone skin
- Balancing Toner: Niacinamide or Witch Hazel — pH-adjusting and oil-controlling for combination and oily skin in SG's humidity
- Soothing Toner: Centella Asiatica, Aloe Vera — calms redness and irritation for sensitive and reactive skin
How to Use Toner — Step by Step
- Apply after cleansing on clean, slightly damp skin
- Pour onto clean fingertips or a cotton pad
- Hydrating toner: Press and pat into skin with palms — layering 3–7 applications (7-skin method) for deep hydration
- Exfoliating toner: Sweep gently with a cotton pad — never layer multiple applications
- Follow with serum and moisturiser while skin is still slightly damp
